MGHP Primary Care Network Offices Receive 2005 Governor's Award of Excellence

April 17, 2006 - All seven Primary Care Network Offices have received MPRO's prestigious 2005 Governor's Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting. This is the second year in a row that all eight PCN offices at MGHP have received this award. Sponsored by Michigan Peer Review Organization (MPRO), Michigan's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization and Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, the award promotes quality improvement initiatives in the physician office setting that enhance the quality of care received by Medicare beneficiaries. There are 1.5 million Medicare beneficiaries in Michigan.

"Winners of this award are committed to providing Michigan citizens with high quality health care services," Granholm said. "The tireless work of our honorees and their staffs mirror the initiatives I have already set forth in the Surgeon General's Michigan Steps Up Campaign and its healthy lifestyles components. Together, we will continue to improve the long term health of citizens by focusing on strategies to protect the public health."

Award criterion focuses on improving preventive health care services and screenings and the management of chronic conditions. The clinical topics addressed include:

  • Coronary Artery Disease
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Heart Failure
  • Cancer Screening for Breast and Colon Cancer

In an effort to increase preventive health screenings statewide, Governor Jennifer Granholm and MPRO challenged physicians' offices to achieve the improvement award based on their work in chosen criteria.

Moss, MD, MBA, president and CEO, MPRO.

"Quality and safety is our goal and strengthens our commitment to provide the best local health care services that we can. Our efforts have been enhanced through our quality improvement collaborations with MPRO. We are extremely proud to be a recipient of this important award for a second year," said Christine Ammon, CPHQ, MGHP PCN Quality Manager.

The award was presented to the Primary Care Network offices at an award ceremony in East Lansing, Michigan on April 5, 2006, at the Eagle Eye Golf Club. 167 physicians' offices statewide received the 2005 award.

MGHP is the specialty referral hospital along the lakeshore. HealthGrades, a national independent healthcare quality ratings organization, recently awarded MGHP with the 2006 Distinguished Quality Award of Clinical Excellence.
