Mercy General Health Partners Primary Care Network Receives 2004 Governor's Award of Excellence

March 28, 2005 - Mercy General Health Partners Primary Care Network has received MPRO, Michigan's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization's, most prestigious award, the 2004 Governor's Award of Excellence for Improving Preventive Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting.

The accolade honors physicians' offices statewide that are performing quality initiatives aimed at improving patient care. The award acknowledges offices in Michigan that are actively engaged in improving care in the following clinical areas:

  • Mammography screening for breast cancer
  • Screenings to prevent diabetes complications
  • Increased immunizations for flu and pneumococcal pneumonia

In an effort to increase preventive health screenings, Governor Jennifer Granholm and MPRO challenged physicians' offices to achieve the improvement award based on select criteria. The award honors MGHP's Primary Care Network for their commitment to continuously improve preventive services in these clinical areas.

"Governor Jennifer Granholm's endorsement of this award is a testament of her dedication to improve the quality of health care in Michigan," said Debra L. Moss, MD, MBA, president and chief executive officer, MPRO. Dr. Moss added, "As Michigan's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, MPRO is honored to partner with the Governor to recognize physician offices such as MGHP's Primary Care Offices , that are achieving measured improvement in patient care, and more importantly, saving lives in the process."

"Our staff is committed to providing the best preventive health services that we can and our efforts have been enhanced through our collaborations with MPRO. We are very proud to be a recipient of this distinguished award," said Chris Ammon, CPHQ, MGHP's Primary Care Network Quality Manager.
