Nov/Dec - Healthy For The Holidays!

Be Healthy This Holiday Season!

1. The most important thing to remember is balance and moderation. Although food can be a big part of the season, it doesn't have to be the focus. Remember what the season is about

2. Be physically active everyday. Physical activity can help relieve stress, regulate appetite and burn up extra calories from holiday eating.

3. Eat a light snack before going to holiday parties. It is not a good to arrive at a party famished. Try a piece of fruit, small yogurt, or a glass of milk.

4. Avoid overeating. Fill your plate half with vegetables, one quarter meat and one quarter starch. Eat slowly and stop when you are full.

5. Make a conscious choice to limit high fat. Use skim milk instead of whole, light butter, half and half cream, and low fact cheese to decrease fat content. Turkey - go skinless! Try low fat recipes!

6. Drink plenty of water. Choose your beverages wisely. Alcohol is high in calories, water and diet sodas are calorie free.

7. Focus on healthy eating and lifestyle. Anticipation of dieting in the new year often prompts people to binge eat over the holidays.

8. Holiday Fun Fact: The average Thanksgiving Day dinner has over 2,000 calories.

Your health is an immeasurable gift for the New Year!

Happy Holidays!
